Amazon peacock bass fishing is just about as exciting as freshwater sport fishing gets. This amazing fish, with its brilliant, iridescent colors flashing in the sunlight, acts as if it’s been trained to put on a good show for the angler. As soon as it grabs your bait, you’ll get a rapid, flashy display, followed by an amazing run, then the fight’s on.

Make no mistake, these are hungry animals. Because they spend the night sleeping, like civilized beings, once they wake up in the daylight, they want food and they’ll fight for it. All similarity to civilization goes and they eat anything they can lay their teeth on. They’ll feed and feed all day long, so prepare yourself for a big catch.

Amazon peacock bass fishing techniques are akin to those used for the largemouth bass, which behaves in a similar way, with wild leaps when it takes the bait. The disturbance from a topwater bait can trigger a frenzied attack on this outsider who’s dared to venture into the peacock’s territory. On the other hand, it might not. It may just generate a spark of interest that bobbles the plug, so you need to be prepared to try other types of lure at other depths.

Because of its unpredictable nature, you need to take the top to bottom approach. When you’ve exhausted your casts with larger topwater plugs, try moving on to a Zara Spook from Heddon. This good old lure appears to the Amazon peacock bass as an injured fish, when you adopt a “walk the dog” retrieve motion. The Zara Spook has been around in different guises since Heddon brought it out in 1939 and is renowned for its success. You could also try different wobblers or, if you’re an old hand, use your own skills with stick baits.

One thing you shouldn’t do is give up, because these fish are not noted for ignoring food. If you’ve tried the topwater plugs, if you’ve had some interest but no strike, stick to the same area and try using jerkbait, a lifelike plastic worm that just might grab the fish’s attention enough to go for it. Tucanare are not generally fooled by plastic worms, but it’s worth a try.

Another tactic seen quite often is for anglers to work in pairs for a while. When the peacock bass sees another member of its gang going for the bait, it seems to get spurred into action. If one of you hooks a peacock, the other should try to tempt any inquisitive onlookers that might be ready to take the bait. Trolling is another technique to try, whether by trailing your line at a distance of about 30 yards behind your slowly moving boat on a lagoon, or by winding your line in slowly from a static position, perhaps using a spoon or spinner lure.

Amazon peacock bass fishing has seen a huge boom in recent years, with fishing trips available for booking online and vast amounts of information being put out there to help the novice and the hardened angler alike. The thrill of landing a peacock bass must be experienced to fully appreciate how it feels. Such is the abundance of these fish in the organized trip areas, that you’re unlikely to return home disappointed.

Before heading out to night fish, make sure that you know the area that you are going to fish. Most lakes have structures just below the surface such as stumps, metal pipes from old boat docks and rocks that can be very dangerous while boating at night. Knowing the lake and where these hazards are at the current water level will save you on costly repairs to your boat and possibly your life. Safety first, make sure all running lights are working on your boat and that you have good flashlight or head lamp on board before heading out.

Research has shown that bass move into shallow water to feed at night; especially in the warmer months of the year. During the summer daylight hours, most bass seek deep water refuge from the sun and extreme heat, making them more difficult to catch. At night, they feel more secure and tend to roam shallow flats looking for food making them an easier target for bass fishermen.

To gear up for a night trip make sure that you have plenty of lures with a dark color. Black, purple, or blue fleck are great colors to start with. Most bass feed while looking up and can see a dark silhouette at night better than they can a lighter tint. Lures range from slow moving jigs and Texas rigged worms to fast moving spinner-baits and crank-baits. The key is to make sure that you use a bulky lure that moves a lot of water so that the bass can find it easier in the dark. Some of the best night time lures include a 10 inch Berkley power worm and a ½ ounce spinner-bait with a big Colorado blade. You may also want to add a rattle to your lure as another attraction. If your lake has an abundance of aquatic grass such as hydrilla or milfoil, a slow running, black buzz-bait will produce some startling strikes.

The best areas on a lake to night fish are those that have a lot of shallow brush or rocks next to deeper water. This includes the rip-rap along dams and bridges as well as boat docks. Other key areas are banks that are well lit such as those in a marina or boat docks that have a security light that remains on all night. Bass will position themselves in the shadows of these lights waiting for a shad, perch or crawfish to swim by. If you are night fishing during a full moon, fish the banks that have moon-light shining on them. Target the shadows that the moon-light makes on the bank behind trees, rocks or brush.

Night-time bass fishing can provide some of the best action all year long. Make sure that you are well prepared and slow down while boating across the lake. Remember to be cautious and to put safety first and you will have an enjoyable experience.

How to Fish Any Lake Like a Pro

After reading the following 7 strategies your life as a angler will never be the same. In fact you can use any one of the following tips individually and increase the number of bass that you catch.

1. All weedlines are not created equal. The goal when it comes to weedlines is to avoid those straight-line weed edges because they are the least productive areas on any lake. When surveying the lake you should keep an eye open for something different such as points, inside turns, cuts, alleys and finger-like projections.

According to most professional anglers irregular weedlines indicate changes in depth or changes in bottom composition, which both attract bass. Another great thing to keep in mind about irregular weedlines is that it gives the predator bass an upper hand in ambushing baitfish.

2. Wind direction is extremely important. Ask any bass angler about wind direction and they will tell you to fish the windward side of a reservoir because churned water tends to activate baitfish into feeding and at the same time disorient them slightly. The same principles apply when it comes natural lakes as well.

3. Go early – go deep – most bass anglers who fish natural lakes will advise you to go early and to head straight for the shallow water. WRONG! The second mistake that I hear bass anglers state is to head to the inside weedline first thing in the morning. Again I will have to hit them with a big fat WRONG! Here’s the hardcore facts… The bigger bass will be feeding on the deep weed edge in the morning. This same rule of thumb applies as the evening approaches. The bottom line… Head for the deep weed edge.

4. Consider going pass the edge – I use to hit the lake and follow the weedline with the determination of a duck on a june bug. I was like a kid at Christmas every time I landed my cast on the weed edge. Yes it is possible to catch bass using this approach – however you are defiantly not maximizing the area that you are fishing.

While fishing you may want to consider the weed density, prey species, bottom composition, bottom slope and of course the weather, bass may retreat father back into the weed canopy or move off the weedline toward deeper water. In particular, the better smallmouth sites may be only a long cast off the weedline toward deeper water. From my personal experiences, the better smallmouth sites may be only a long cast off the weedline to a hard-bottom rise.

5. Flip The Canopy – when it comes to fishing natural lakes, flipping and pitching to a weed edge is hands down the most popular form of presentation. Most anglers will tell you that the bait should fall very slowly so they favor exceptionally light weights. However, light weights often hang up on foliage. Personally I rather use a 3/8 or ½ ounce weight so the bait gets to the bottom without interference. I have found this technique to be extremely useful on days when bass are not overly aggressive. I know they are waiting for me on the bottom and backed up under the canaopy.

When possible I will fish 10 feet or more into the weedbed, targeting any little opening that allows my bait to enter cleanly and drop straight down. If it hits bottom without a strike, I’ll pause for a moment, then lift it a couple of inches and “BAM” drop it again. After it sits for a few seconds, I’ll make another pitch. Before you email me or post a lot of comments asking please allow me to volunteer right now and just tell you. Generally when fishing under the above conditions I will flip and pitch a Texas-rigged tube or compact beaver-tailed bait with a pegged tungsten weight on 15-pound fluorocarbon line. Green pumpkin is his usual go-to color. When all else seems to be feeling I will pull out the big guns and switch to baby soft plastics to a finesse-flip-ping jig with a sweet zoom speed craw.

6. Throw that Jigworm – when the bass are totally ignoring everything that I am throwing at them and it would appear that they are totally inactive I will step up my presentation for the weedline to a ¼ ounce Slider Spider Classic Head with a 4-inch worm.

Charlie Brewer’s Spider Classic Head features a large size and heavier gauge hook than the standard Spider Head. In my personal opinion I feel that it is the offset hook that allows for the weedless rigging, and the cone-shaped head slips through vegetation stalks. I prefer to right it with a Zoom Centipede in a translucent color like watermelon or ice, but you can use any 4-inch worm. I fish it on spinning tackle with 8-pound test and catch bass of all sizes.

Whenever you cast make sure to cast parallel to the weedline and let your lure sink to the bottom. Then use your rod tip to lift the bait and pull it 2 to 3 feet before letting it settle back to the bottom. Use the 5 to 6 second pause to take up the slack line before pulling the lure again.

7. Crank the hell out of the edges – Shhhh! Do not tell anyone about this next little secret… A deep-diving crankbait is another lure that I have great success with when fishing weedlines.

I’m sure a lot of anglers that you tell this to will cringe at the thought of using a crankbait around weedbeds on natural lakes. I am willing to go up against any of those naysayers any day of the week. I have caught more large bass with this strategy than you can shake a stick at. I’m telling you when those bass are actively feeding, this is the lure that I recommend that you throw.

I like to use a big bodied deep diver that can easily reach bottom at the depth where weeds stop growing. Rather than use a moderate action cranking rod, I prefer a stiff medium heavy rod with a fast action in order to rip the bait free of vegetation. I also use a 12 pound fluorocarbon. Another reason I love the crankbait so much is that it allows me to cover a lot of territory. Remember when cranking the edge do not be afraid of getting caught up on weeds. When you rip them loose it could trigger a strike.

FACT: if you follow the seven rules above you will defiantly improve your fishing experience.

Night Fishing For Catfish – Enticing Trophy Catfish Into A Feeding Frenzy!

Equipment you will need:

Boat
Boat Anchors
Separate 12v Battery To run lights
Night Lights
Submerged Lighting
Live Bait Keeper
Chum bag Rod Holders
Heavy Bait Casting Or Spinning Rig
Insect Repellent

Night fishing for catfish can be a very rewarding fishing trip. Trust me If you do it correctly you will catch fish, not only will you catch fish but some will be lunkers! Catfish feed at night and are very active, and when they get into a feeding frenzy fishing action can be incredible! Catfish are attracted to submerged lighting And have a very keen sense of smell. So If you can locate their nightly haunts you can entice them on to your hook with some simple methods I will explain here. But first you must be setup and prepared for night fishing it is totally different at night then in the day. Things you take for granted during the day, don’t apply at night.

Boat Setup for night fishing

Before you even think about going night fishing for catfish you need to have the following items:, lights for inside the boat, either battery or Coleman fuel type lanterns with two mantles. Set up your lights so they distribute light evenly inside the boat. I personally fish from a 20 foot pontoon and I have 3 halogen battery powered lights hung 2in the front, left and right and one hanging from my canopy in the rear. (I have used my Colemans but they attract a huge amount of insects)

You also will need a secondary light on your person. This light is used for re-rigging your fishing poles. Trust me, no matter how prepared you are before your trip you will loose some tackle, from line crossovers, or snags, or fish snapping your line. (you can limit this by using heavy tackle and making sure your line is fresh) I personally use a led light that clips to the visor on my ball cap.

You also will need a light to illuminate the water surface I recommend 12v halogen light that can be directed outside the boat. Mount it on the side of your boat, in the center. I personally use and adjustable halogen that I can clip to the railing on my pontoon. Direct the light at a 60 degree angle from boat to water. This will illuminate the surface.

You will need a submerged light source. You are probably asking your self right now why do I need submerged lighting? The submerged lights will generate plankton swirls that will attract bait fish. Once the bait fish start schooling The big cats will come. attract schools Submerged lighting rigs come in a variety of sizes and shapes, the one I use is 36″ long about 4″ in diameter. Center the submerged light in the illumination pattern of the surface water lighting you just set up. Anchor your submerged lighting about 12 ” off the bottom, (without an anchor they will float on top of the water).. make sure the light completely submerged under the water. I recommend you use a 5lb weight as an anchor. If possible, anchor the submerged light about 2 to 3 ft from the boat.

You will need a secondary power source for the submerged light, the water illumination light and to operate your aerator pump for your live bait or live well.”do not use your boats power source” This will drain your battery.”you don’t want to get stuck on the lake at night right? If you take a well charged 12v marine battery as your second source it will last through the night.

You will need all Your poles pre-rigged If you have the rigs I would set up 3 poles, per person in advance of getting on the water. The reason I suggest this is because it’s real pain the “blank” To re-rig at night. You will end up doing it anyway, but if you have spare poles already set up, use them first before you have waist valuable time with poles out of the water.

Locating the cat’s nightly haunts

It has been my experience the bigger cat’s roam the shore lines or back waters in search of food at night. Every body of water will be different. I highly recommend you do some research on the body of water you intend to night fish for catfish on. At Minimum Get a topographical map of the area before you attempt your trip. These can be attained at any of the local bait and tackle shops in the area. (I recommend you visit one of these shops to get the local scoop anyway, if you dig deep enough these guys can pin point on the map Where to start fishing. This will save you lots of time.)

Enticing the Cats to your boat.

Once you have your water surface lights and your submerged lights set up and ready to go you don’t even need to do the next step, you are ready to start fishing. The submerged lighting will get the schools of bait fish coming, but I take it step one step further because if you play on the catfish’s extra sensitive sense of smell you can drive the Big cats into a feeding frenzy! Ok You say how?

Well the answer is by introducing “chumming”. Chumming releases a slick of dead fish smells and fish guts that the small bait fish and catfish feed on. There are many commercial chumming systems you can purchase and they work very well, but I use a simple very inexpensive method that anyone can set up. First you will need a nylon netted bag that you can close tight. (a good example would the netted bags that you put golf balls in that have a string closure adjustment) This is what I use, works perfect, very inexpensive. Next, get some good size freezer bags, 3 should do for one nights trip.

Next, Purchase about 2 dozen good size chubs and cut them in 1″ to 2″ slices, make sure you do this in a pan that will not drain all the juices. Fill the freezer bags pieces and juice all together, and let them sit outside in the sun all day long. Yes it will stink to high heaven by the end of the day, but that is what you want! Now stick the freezer bag in side the meshed bag that can close. Close the bag tight and tie a line at the bottom of the bag about 2 feet long. Attach about a 2lb anchor to get the bag to the bottom. Now tie a line at the top of the bag with enough lead line to get the bag on the bottom. Now before you lower the chum bag to the bottom take an ice pick, or something sharp that will puncture the bag, but not tear the plastic. Punch the freezer bag numerous times, then lower to the bottom an tie it off on the side of the boat.

Now its time to fish! But before we go there lets re-visit Your catfish rigs. There are many catfish rigs you can use, and they all work in situations they are designed for. When you are fishing at night and you have submerged a lighting setup, you want get your line about 2 ft away from the light source, approximated on the outer edges of the source’s beam.

You will be fishing only a short distance from the boat, so your rigs need to be set up to fish in close proximity to the boat. You could fish tight line with a basic catfish hook and a small sinker. Or use a slip bobber system. I prefer to use the slip bobber system.

I use the single hook rig. Both rigs shown in the illustration work fine but I just have preference for the single hook rig. I do use the double hook rig when fishing for other types of fish. I use all heavy duty, open face, and spin cast rod and reels with 30lb test. When you do get a lunker on your line you want the tackle set up to handle the fight. You miss some smaller cats, but it’s well worth it when you catch your first 10lb plus catfish.

Baits To Use

both Channel and Blue catfish will eat just about any small fish like Suckers, small shad, or bluegills both live or dead. I use both live bait and dead “cut bait” I will normally set one pole up with a small live gill no more that 3inches in length. My other poles will be baited with cut bait, normally LARGE suckers 6″ or longer cut in 1″ to 2″ chunks.

Now Bait your rigs,Get Your Boat Setup and get ready for an exciting Night fishing for Catfish Trip! Once you catch a lunker 10 pounder + You will be Hooked for life! So have fun and good luck

Fishing is an interesting hobby. This can be done anywhere that has water so it won’t be that hard to get started. In some countries such as the United States, this is considered to be a popular sport.

In order to win, the player must reel in the biggest fish and not how many are in the bucket. When it is captured, an official will weigh it and then throw it back into the water. This sport is better known as Bass fishing.

Bass fishing is something that the person will not learn or be good at overnight. Here are some tips for those who want to excel in bass fishing.

1. To excel well in bass fishing, one has to study the creature. The individual should know where it lives which includes the environment and water temperatures where these are located.

2. If the water is warm, there won’t be that much Bass in the water. However, there may some around given that there is nothing the fish can do. More of these will be found in moderate temperatures where these fish will put up a fight before being caught.

3. Bass love to hang out over sheltered areas where old trees that have fallen into the water are used by smaller fish as a home. This information will tell the individual what type of bait or lure to use given the conditions.

4. The next tip is basically the type of equipment that the person is going to be using. There are so many brands to choose from for the rod, reels and lines so it is best to ask the sales clerk which is the best to use given the conditions of the water.

5. The use of high tech gadgets is sometimes the best thing around when fishing for bass. This will make sure the person is in the right spot instead of doing the hit or miss process that will make the competition get ahead in this sport.

6. The conditions are very different when going from one fishing location to the next. Before going into the water, asking the locals for some tips is a good way to get a head start.

7. During the tournament, it will be a good idea to befriend the other competitors. After it has ended, this will be a good time to learn some valuable lessons so that the person can improve the next time one decides to join.

8. There are bass fishing groups online and memberships that provide training to first timers and veterans alike. It wouldn’t hurt to join one of these organizations. After all, no one can really say the individual is an expert given that the winners are different every time.

The tips mentioned for bass fishing will surely be helpful for those who want to participant in a competition or are just there to have fun. One indicator that the person is improving is based on the number of fish caught and how heavy it is.

The player may not win this time but it can happen in the future competitions. It takes a lot of practice and patience to be just as good as the pros so one has to hang in there because that time will come.

BASS FISHING and Bass Fly Fishing Truths

Bass Fishing and Fly Fishing Articles, Fish Recipes and Fishing Secrets.

Bass fishing has a fascinating history. It started in the late 18th century and continues to progress even today. Fishing was originally practiced in

search of food among the people in the south of the United States. Since then, it has encompassed all ages and nations. Today, countries such as

Australia, Cuba, South Africa, The United States and most of Europe participate in this kind of event.

Timelines

    •	The year 1768 or 1770 represents the birth of bass fishing sports.

    •	William Shakespeare Jr. materializes the production of a level wind device and secured its patent on 1897.

    •	The William J. Jamison Co introduced the overly ornamented Shannon Twin Spinner in 1915 and was improved to create today’s spinner baits.

    •	In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the creation of The Tennessee Valley Authority and encouraged the creation and building of

numerous dams. These dams were later used as fisheries for different species of bass.

    •	Five years later, DuPont Company filed patent for a nylon fishing net, this was later developed into nylon monofilament fishing line. Still in use

today. With some changes it stays straight and lasts quite a long time with cleaning and care.

    •	In the year 1992 Larry Nixon, the famous fisherman in the history of bass fishing won M total earnings for this sport on this year. Today we have

bass tournaments all over the US and winnings of 0,000 to ,000,000 are common.

Types of Bass Fish

Several fish species that are being caught in bass fishing are:

    •	Micropterus psalmodies (Lacepede) – Largemouth Bass

    •	Micropterus dolomieui – Smallmouth bass

    •	Micropterus punctatus – Kentucky Bass

Just a note of reference, Australian Bass are different from the above North American Bass variants although most share similar features. Perhaps, the most

robust success of Bass Fishing was in the 1950s. Due to the development of modern fishing equipment, from bass boats, rods, lines, lures and various fishing

gears.

Electronic gear was incorporated among the host of equipment bass fishers used at that time. Reels of different types, which function in hauling and

hoisting, were also created. Statistics show that the audience base of this sport is increasing and that more and more people are getting interested in it

compared to tennis and golf.

Fly fishing for bass is a popular sport as well.

A good fiberglass or bamboo rod is required and comes in various sizes. The most used size is a 9 foot rod. The rod is longer than normal rods because the

rod is used to cast the heavier line.Rods will come in one, two or three piece units. Many fishermen prefer a two piece rod as it is easier to transport.

The type of fly line you use will depend on the rod you select. Look on the rod handle for the type of line to use with this rod. The reel of a fly rod is

very different than a spin casting rod and will hold less line. This is because the line is much thicker. With a spin rod the lure is pulling the line but

with a fly rod the line is pulling the lure. Most bass fly fishers will want to use a Up-Locking with extension butt type rod. Your fishing store will know

what your asking for.

Another important item for the fly fisher is a good fishing vest. You want as many pockets as you can get and large enough to hold your lure boxes and other

items. Also make sure there is a felt or wool fly holder to stick extra fly lures to. This makes it easy to change lures when needed.

Chest or hip waders are also a good idea when bass fly fishing. You will be able to wade the river and streams and get right on a bass while in the water.

Remember bass like to hide and strike their prey.

A good pair of wading shoes or boot will help too. Find some with good soles of leather, felt or non slippery texture. I used to use rubber soled boots but

they were slippery on moss covered rocks in West Virginia, I now have felt glued to the bottoms and find this works well.

When bass fly fishing do not be worried about not catching any bass, it maybe trout time…So fish for trout. They are fun to catch and just as tasty. Get

tasty fish recipes and more fishing articles and secrets.

Bass fishing is a pastime that can be enjoyed at any time of year by the millions of bass fishing enthusiasts all over the world. As bass are ever present in lakes, pools, rivers and even the coastal regions off some countries, it is possible to fish all year round.

Obviously you have to tailor your style and technique to the bass area and the time of year, but if you can do that then there is no reason why you cannot experience good catch rates all year round.

However, you need to know what techniques to use at the various times of the year and the early spring phase is as good a time to start with as any.

There are definite fishing techniques and methods that should be applied to early spring fishing because it is in the pre-spawn phase. As such, the bass are often at their most active but also their most stresses. This can send your catch rate either way. It can actually be extremely frustrating because you are not guaranteed to have huge hauls.

Instead, you actually have to work for it. If you do though, you will find that the bass are at their largest and most impressive.

The one thing you should remember when fishing for bass in the early spring is that you do have to be prepared to try out several techniques from day to day because there is no uniform behaviour that bass conform to at this time of year. As such, you do have to be patient and extremely versatile in your fishing technique. It is not a trip for those that are stuck in their ways.

The first tip that you should take on board is to fish to the weather. If it is warm and the sun is shining then the fishing should be fast. However, if it is a cold day then they will return to their winter behaviour of settling deep in the body of water as well as under the cover of vegetation and in rocky banks.

Tasting the water temperature will help you to tailor your techniques to the day because bass are cold blooded. Their blood will cool or rise to match the water temperature and this determines whether they are active or extremely sluggish from day to day.

It is also important to remember that the temperatures will rise and drop throughout the day so it is important to be extremely aware of your surroundings and the weather conditions throughout your bass fishing sessions.

The golden rule of bass fishing in early spring is to match the temperatures of the water. If the water is warm then you should fish quickly to encourage the bass to bite.

Casting your line in the same place twice is essential but moving it within ten or fifteen minutes is always a good idea if you have yet to catch anything by that point.

Fishing in the top water is also a great tip if the action is good. However, if the weather is cold then fish deep and be sure to settle your line in one place for a while.

Keep in mind that just going to a tackle shop and asking the clerk is not the best way to choose a lure. You need to assess the spot you are fishing and know the water type, temperature, weed beds, native aquatic life and such. Using a plastic leech where leeches are not native is not going to produce.

Top water “surface” lures

These are the ones that stay on top of the water and you can actually see a strike. Some look like minnows or baitfish while others may resemble insects or bugs. Some may make noise or just mimic a swimming prey.

Spinner baits

These lures are designed to be cast and retrieved at a moderate speed. Metal blades attached to it spin and attract the bass on a visual level.

Soft plastics

This is probably the widest category of bass fishing lure anywhere. These can be made to look like worms, lizards, snakes or even small bait fish. The vast color selection is unbelievable. Soft plastics can be bought Texas rigged (with hooks already in them) or plain (no hooks).

Swim baits

Swim baits are soft plastic bass fishing lures that are designed to look like small prey fish. Most have tails that “wave” as they are retrieved. Usually, swimmers are retrieved like plugs; either at a steady pace or brought to a full stop, then retrieved again at a high speed.

Spoons

Spoon lures look like the inside of a spoon, hence the name. They are metal, have a color side and a plain, shiny side. As a spoon is retrieved, it spins and attracts the bass visually.

Jigs

This is a simple one, folks. Jigs are weighted hooks that are normally combined with a soft plastic worm. The weight causes the hook to fall to the bottom, so the angler needs to jerk, or jig, the rod tip to make it move. Done properly, it will resemble an injured prey fish. Most of the time, bass hit these on the fall. This is a particularly deadly bass fishing lure choice.

Plugs

Plugs are also known as crankbaits. Typically made of either wood or hard plastic, they are designed to move in a specific way. Some will resemble small fish or other prey attractive to bass. These are classified as floaters, shallow divers or deep divers. I think you can figure out what those terms mean without too much discussion, right?

In theory, any lure can produce fish, given the proper conditions and lure selection. Bass are especially territorial and aggressive, so will attack just about any thing that moves through the water near them. This is especially true of things that look like a meal to them. The best advice is to make your bass fishing lure look like a tasty treat and you will eat fish for dinner that evening!

Catch More Bass With the Right Lure

Bass fishing has grown in popularity, both within the amateur and professional or competitive fields. To become a successful bass fisher, you must learn which bass fishing lures are appropriate. These bass fishing lures will vary depending on whether it is a morning or an evening fishing trip, the area, the body of water and the water depth. Below are a few suggestions regarding the bass fishing lures that are available and the best ways to use each lure.

One of the most interesting bass fishing lures is crank bait. Crank lures imitate an injured or weak fish through using slow movements. They can be used on top of the water or as a sinking lure. They also provide a cranking noise which the bass often finds intriguing and attractive.

Jigs are a heavier bait with a lead head and usually a single hook. They are very versatile because they are useful in cloudy AND clear water types and can be used during all times of the day. The jig is most effective when the water temp is less than 60 degrees.

Spinner baits have a large, spinning, metal fin that agitates the fish. This causes the fish to attack the lure. These bass fishing lures can be used anytime and are especially effective when the bass are spawning because during that time they are less interested in finding food.

Buy the Award Winning ‘Esca Lures’ online at http://www.innovativefishingtackle.co.uk/

Vibrating lures are made of plastic or metal that vibrates. They easily sink to the bottom of even deep waters. There are a wide range of bass fishing lures that can be considered vibrating lures, such as tail spinners. Tail spinners are metal baits that have a small spinning tail that lure the bass. These fishing lures are best used near tree stumps, watery beds of grass, logs, near deep water or near river currents.

Rubber worms are less annoying than lively worms, but some anglers find them to be less effective. To most get the most out of your rubber worm you should add a weight to the lure to cause the bait to sink to the bottom, then slowly reel the lure back in.

Grubs are very attractive to bass. They have a soft body with a hook attached to a head of a jig. It is the perfect bass fishing lure to use when there is insufficient cover in a highland body of water. They are also most useful in deep, clear bodies of water so that bass can see there color patterns.

Poppers can be an effective lure for bass, but are not as versatile as others. They are most useful only during the summer months and can only be used on top of the water. When you slowly reel these lures in, they create a popping motion on top of the water.

Docile, hard to catch bass is a problem that can be solved with tube jigs. These bass-specific lures work best with a spinning reel on a medium to medium-light action fishing rod.

The Many Types Fishing Lures – How They Are Different

There are so many different lure types today it’s hard to keep track of them all. This article is written with the intention of listing as many available lure types as possible while keeping it simple. Therefore even though lots of types will be listed, only three categories of lures will be talked about in more detail.

Fishing lures are usually put into categories based on how they work, or on their physically defining features. Some of the categories of fishing lures available today are surface baits, spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. There are also jerkbaits, crankbaits, and soft-bodied rigs.

Surface baits are obviously lures that will float on top of the water. When a fish hits one of these lures it makes a great show and really gets the adrenaline going. So much so that most anglers try to set the hook right away, when hesitating for a second or two is the proper way to ensure the fish has the bait.

Some well known lures that fall under the category of surface baits are the Hula Popper, Jitterbug, buzz baits, darters, and prop baits. All these different subcategories have their own unique characteristics providing varying levels of movement and noise on the water’s surface.

A spoon is just an elongated chunk of metal, usually in the vague shape on an ellipse, having a treble hook on the end. Most have one side painted with various color schemes, while the other side is just the bare shiny metal.

Spoons are commonly used on pike and bass and are used with either long casts or by trolling a boat along the shoreline. Spoons that are known by a great deal of anglers include the Red Daredevil, Five of Diamonds, and Little Cleo brand spoons.

Lastly is the category of lures known as spinnerbaits. These baits range in size and color like most lures do, but they have a spinning blade just behind the eyelet, a bell shaped body, and a treble hook which sometimes includes a bit of fur as added enticement.

The speed of a spinnerbait’s blade is dependent on the rate of the retrieve. This rate will need to be changed depending on the particular lure being used and type of fish being sought.

Familiar lures from this category include both the Rapala and Panther Martin brand spinnerbaits, as well as the Blue Fox Vibrax Spinning Minnow. All are very successful spinnerbaits to use.

Although every type of lure couldn’t be discussed, the knowledge provided in this article regarding the surface, spoon, and spinnerbait lure types should provide anyone with a place to start.

These 2 shad fishing lures (or types of fishing lures) are the main two varieties when it comes to baits that mimic shad, and is what this article is about. The “perfect” shad imitation comes from one of these to varieties of fishing lures. The number one “perfect” fishing lure is probably impossible to determine, and depends on the angler and temperament of the bass themselves, but if there is one single “perfect” shad imitation it comes form these two fishing lure varieties.

Soft Plastics – Soft plastics, especially swim baits, are very effective shad fishing lures. Typically these baits are segmented soft plastic baits with a thumping tail. Normally Swimbaits are retrieved quite fast, and then stopped from time to time to allow the bait to sink into the strike zone. There are Swimbaits that imitate shad as well as other bait fish. On most waterways the shad imitating Swimbaits are the most effective. YUM brand soft plastic shad are an effective shad imitation for bass fishing as well. These soft plastics have been impregnated with scents that smell much like a live shad, which makes them more effective than traditional soft plastics.

Crank Baits – Crank baits have been imitating shad for many years. Some of the more popular and effective shad crank baits would include the Bagley G-force and the Rapala Shad Rap. These are both great shad imitations and are quite effective for bass fishing. Typically crank baits have a lip in the front to allow the bait to ‘swim’ to different depths when retrieved. When it comes to shad fishing lures another effective crank bait is the KickTail minnow. This shad imitation is sort of a hybrid between a swim bait and a crank bait. In any case many crankbaits are effective shad imitations.

The bottom line is that any serious bass angler needs to have effective shad lures in their tackle bag/box. The most effective bass baits that imitate our friend the shad will come from one of the two varieties of fishing lures listed above. These two bass lure varieties will produce your own personal ‘perfect’ shad imitation that hopefully will serve you well for many years to come.

Fishing – What to Wear

I have no sense of fashion, and rarely can match my clothing. I usually choose clothing based on comfort. When selecting what clothing to wear on the river, comfort is key. Here in the mountains, the weather changes quickly. In winter months, cold weather is a constant. Cold temperatures are found along the rivers or low spots across the land. Temperatures at Teton Valley Lodge along the river can be -30, while Grand Targhee Ski Resort, fifteen miles up the mountain, will be 0 at the same time of day.

Winter fishing can be fantastic, unless you choose the wrong clothing. For winter fishing you should wear the same things you might wear skiing or snowmobiling, plus a bit extra. One key item is fleece fingerless gloves. You must wear fingerless gloves so you have control over your line. Fingered gloves just don’t work. The fleece gloves retain heat even when wet and dry easily. Another great piece of clothing is the boot foot wader by Simms. This newly redesigned wader is warm and comfortable. Regular stocking foot waders pale in comparison. For winter fishing nothing beats the boot foot.

Summer clothing has advanced a lot over the past few years. It wasn’t too long ago that we always wore waders or hip boots in the summer. There just wasn’t the clothing available to fish comfortably any other way. Manufacturers like Patagonia, Simms and Cloudveil, have excellent choices for the summer angler. For most of the summer season you are able to wet wade with quick dry pants and sandals. There are two different types of shirts made specifically for fishing. You can select standard button-up shirts in both long and short sleeves. These are quick dry like the pants and most offer an SPF factor. The other type of shirt is a T-shirt style of lighter weight material than the conventional button-up. Both are quick drying and cool in hot weather.

Flipping For Bass

The technique of pitching has largely replaced it in some quarters, but the flipping technique remains the same ultra precise, this is a deadly method of catching large bass in cover that Californians Dee Thomas and Dave Gliebe first brought East 30 years ago. This was a technique that revolutionized the sport. When the technique of flipping was introduced to the fishing world it was the most effective method ever. The fisherman learned that flipping was amazingly accurate procedure to get the big bass out of cover. It was such an outstanding weapon the fisherman from the west where the warriors in the early and mid 70s. Bass pro fisherman Roland Martin says flipping changed everything, suddenly we had a way to get a bait to big bass in some bad places.

The virtues of flipping have not changed. Bass fisherman fishing for the bigger bass always pays off when they are flipping for individual bass instead of schoolies. Individual fish are normally big fish. They’ll hold on the most unusual piece of cover in the area. They stake out their own territory.

If you are going to be a serious bass fisherman, you will have to master the flipping technique, that’s what the pros say. It remains a major part of bass fishing throughout the year.

The bass pros known the merits of flipping are well known. The bass pro fisherman known that technique is just isn’t limited for spring and summer when bass are most likely to bury up in cover. Unless the water where you live freezes over in winter, there is an application for this close quarters fighting technique throughout the year.

Here’s a look at where experienced flippers concentrate their efforts on flipping year around.

When flipping in the summer fishing main lake flip tight cover that tends to be a little bit better, especially after the spring rains where the water is still high. Also the bass pro says fishing vegetation, downed tree’s and branches when the water is high after the spring rains. Many pros us the flipping technique on the thickest mats during the hottest times in the summer with a lake fork trophy tackle craw tube teamed with a 1 ounce tungsten weight and 80 pound test spiderwire braid.

During the dog days of summer the fish are in grass lines on points and main lake cover. Ounce your fishing into the fall, flipping into creek channels becomes more productive. Fishing the channels are the migration of baitfish holding on the channel, but there are always fish in channels but in late summer and early fall the channels play a huge role in finding the most productive fishing area.

Bass fishing in the fall the bass are going to be on thick grass and hydrilla and matted hyacinths. The pros are going to key on stuff, there going to be flipping on isolated patches of grass and hyacinths or hydrilla and even wood. Some of them expend most of there flipping in the backs of creeks throughout the fall.

When the pros are flipping in the winter they will fish shallow situations in muddy, highly fertile lakes, where the bass population doesn’t live very deep, to surprisingly deep cover. Some of the pros will us a 1/8 to 3/16 ounce Berkley jig with a big power frog trailer to get a slow descent to entice sluggish coldwater fish.

Bass fishing attracts anglers in large numbers every year and as a recreational activity, it has grown to gigantic proportions. So what is the attraction with bass fishing? Is it because of the aggressive nature of this fish when it strikes an angler’s line? The excitement it engenders everytime it snaps at a jig? There are a million and one tips available to inexperienced anglers everywhere but deciphering the good from the bad is almost an art form in itself.

Bass Fishing Tournaments

Bass fishing tournaments are now big business today. To be successful at anyone of these tournaments it’s important you know the waters you’re fishing on. Much like a racehorse trainer heading to a track for the first time after a major purse, he or she will invariably give the horse a look at the track during a trial gallop just to get the feel and layout of the course. The same applies with bass fishing. I have heard many an angler report that if only they had spent a few hours on a particular lake before a tournament their result may have been a little different and a little more productive.

Understanding what the fish will be biting on, where they are likely to be and what depths you will need to fish is all part of bass fishing tournament 101. So the next time you are heading off to fish a major tournament, give yourself the best chance of landing a prize by familiarizing yourself for a few hours at the tournament venue.

Game Of Patience

Fishing is a game of patience. That elusive monster we all want to land and brag about for the rest of our lives is what drives many of us on. But did you know it is virtually only one more cast away. One bass fishing tip I love to give to anglers who beat themselves up on the fact that they are sick to death of ending up with the smallest fish in the lake is just keep casting your line.

You see, particularly for fairweather anglers, the chance of landing a 10 pound plus bass won’t happen unless you actually fish for it. Let me explain… A serious fishing enthusiast will get on the water at least once a week. Unless you are out there and actually fishing then the chances of catching the “big one” is really only a pipe dream.

The majority of recreational fishermen either don’t have the time or inclination to get out there often and except for divine intervention, will usually go through life never experiencing the feeling of landing “Mr.10 pound plus bass.” So what am I saying… I’m saying like anything in life, bass fishing is not just about the theory, it’s about the practice. Put into practice what you learn from the books and fishing shows and get on the water and do it on a regular basis.

There seem to be a few well worn principles in life which seem to apply across a broad spectrum of topics. If you apply the two tips in this article, familiarize and practice to your bass fishing endeavours, your chances of extra success will be enhanced.

The bass fishing lures being outlined in this article are being listed in no particular order and are all effective. Remember, if you’re trying to catch a lake record any of these bass lures will work, but the biggest keys to success are practice and patience. The more time that you can spend using these lures the better. There is simply no substitute for practice and patience when it comes to bass fishing.

Crayfish Baits – Crayfish imitations of all kinds are effective during the spring of the year. In very slow moving to still water (such as in bays and coves) a slow moving crankbait is a very effective fishing lure. If there is a little current, soft plastic crayfish imitations are effective at catching spring bass. The key with fishing crayfish baits is to understand how a real (or live) fleeing crayfish looks in the water. A fleeing crayfish “jumps” and then swims backwards when startled. This means that your retrieve should mimic this action as much as possible. Crankbaits In Crayfish Colors – Crankbaits that mimic baitfish, but that are dark red, red, and/or black/brown in color are excellent early spring bass fishing lures, especially when retrieved quickly through shallow water with a rocky bottom. Since bass like to key on crayfish during the spring a lure that is colored like a crayfish, but doesn’t necessarily look like a crayfish, can be quite effective. This is especially true as the water temperature rises. Spinner Baits – As the water warms in the lake you are fishing, spinner baits will become more and more effective. Spinner baits are also an excellent way to locate feeding spring bass on a given body of water. Flooded brush is a great place to find bass in the spring of the year and a Spinnerbait fished over and through flooded brush is a very effective spring bass fishing technique. Spinner baits are great bass fishing baits at many times of the year, but the springtime seems to be especially good.

The bottom line is that these early season fishing lures will help anyone catch more bass in the springtime. Add them all to your bass fishing arsenal sooner rather than later. These baits should be a part of any serious bass fisherman’s tackle bag/box when fishing for bass, especially in the spring of the year.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Innovative-Fishing-Tackle

Bass Fishing – 3 Extremely Effective Hot Weather Bass Baits

As the summer begins to heat up in many areas, so does bass fishing. Many bass fishermen agree that there is no better time of the year to catch bass than the summertime and in this article I will outline 3 extremely effective bass baits to use during the hot summer months. When the weather gets hot the bass baits that are employed should be adjusted to match what the bass are doing, and bass tend to react differently as the weather (and subsequently the water temperatures) heat up.

Bass fishing tends to become a bit more difficult during extremely hot weather, mostly because during extremely hot weather water temperatures can become all but unbearable to bass. As the bass look to cool off, which means that late evening and especially early mornings tend to be the most productive times of the day to fish, bass tend to migrate to deeper water because deeper water means cooler water. This means that during the hottest parts of the day, look for bass to be in deeper water than during the early mornings or late evenings when bass can be found feeding in the shallows.

In any case, the following 3 bass baits should definitely be a part of any serious bass fisherman’s bass fishing arsenal, there’s no doubt about it.

Top Water Baits – Top water baits such as Zara Spook’s or Pop-R’s are both excellent choices when bass fishing during hot weather, as long as they are used during the early morning or late evenings when the water is completely flat. These baits should be fished around shoreline cover, as bass migrate here during the night when water temperatures cool off. The key to working these bass baits during hot weather is to work them very slowly. Lipless Swim Baits – Anytime that you are bass fishing during the heat of the day lipless swim baits such as the KickTail Minnow or traditional lipless baits such as the Rat-L-Trap can be difficult to beat. Count these bass baits down to the depth that bass seem to be holding at and you are good to go. You can accomplish this task by varying the speed of your retrieve. The faster you reel your lipless swim bait in the shallower it will run and vice versa. Floating Worms – Four to six inch floating worms in a variety of colors are a great bait when you speak of hot weather bass fishing. Both Texas and Carolina rigged floating worms work very well during the hot summer months and need to be a part of your tackle bag/box. As the day progresses start to look for active bass in deeper water and fish your floating worm Texas style for the best results. Earlier in the day when bass are shallower, rig your floating worm Carolina style.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Innovative-Fishing-Tackle

The bottom line is that all of these baits are extremely effective during the hot weather months of July, August, and even early September. Have these bass baits available during these times and you will experience much more bass fishing success.

Best Largemouth Bass Lures

I’ll tell you the colors that are best, the types of lures, and when to use certain lures.

You have to remember certain colors and lures will only work on certain days and certain times of the year. For example, it’s hard to catch Bass on a spinner-bait when it’s 20 degrees outside. Bass are very slow in cold weather, so you have to adapt just like them.

Some basic keys to finding Bass are structure and water currents. Bass love thick vegetation and structures like logs. Also, they are more often found in slow-moving waters or, even better, waters with no current at all. Habitats like man-made ponds, lakes, reservoirs and river backwaters are a good place to start looking. In these areas, find broken trees or structures like vegetation in the water and you’re sure to find Bass lurking.

During spring fishing season you’ll want to look into deeper waters for Largemouth Bass. In these deeper waters you’ll want to find drop offs, channels, or some type of structure underneath the surface.

During the summer fishing season you’ll want to look closer to shore and in shallow waters. Due to high temperatures that cause lack of oxygen for them, they stay out of deeper waters. This is a great time to try night fishing and early morning fishing when it’s cooler outside and the sun is not out.

During the fall fishing season you’re going to find Bass at about the same points as summer but a little deeper at times as well. Now and during summer are great opportunities to fish the structures closer to shore.

Now on to the lure choice. Here I’ll discuss the Best Largemouth Bass Lures for certain times of year and certain structures.

-Top-water lures such as buzz-baits, poppers and other top water plugs are going to be used during the summer and fall months when most Largemouth Bass are in shallow, structured areas.

-Mid-water lures include spinner-baits, crank-baits, minnow plugs and twisters. These will serve you well in spring and fall, with some of them be good for summer as well. Spinners and twisters are good for structured areas during the summer months.

-Deep-water lures are mostly deep-diving crank-baits. You can also use a jig. These are going to be best for early spring and late fall. Best used when the water temperatures have fallen.

And now, color! Overall best color is red and orange for anytime of year. Generally though, you want to use bright colors in clear waters and murky waters use darker colors.
