Have you ever wondered why when you are out fishing that

sometimes the fish are just not attracted to what you are

offering them as bait.  Sure, you may have bought the bait

recommended by the locals or made  your own concoction from

home but at the end of the day your line is empty.

The first way to ensure that the bass are biting is to you

buy fresh bait.  If you buy some fresh bait they will stay

alive longer and be more attractive to the bass that you are

hoping to catch. 

 Do some research on the area where you are planning your day

out bass fishing or bass boating.   Talk to the locals and

the fishing clubs in the area and find out what the bass

fish in the area are attracted to.   The bait that might

bring home a bass fish in your local area may not be

attractive to the bass where you plan on fishing.

 
When you are out bass fishing it’s great to sometimes sit in

the sun and drop the line in and have a beer until you get a

bite.    The bait is usually by your side, nice and handy so

that you can quickly drop a line in once the bass are

biting.

 
Once your bait bucket is out in the sun you lose that

quality of freshness that we were aiming for with point

number 1.   Face it, you wouldn’t leave your beer in the sun

so don’t leave your bait there either.   If you do not have

a separate ice box for your bait put it under the nearest

shady tree so it can stay fresh for as long as you want to

keep fishing.

 
Even if you always pack your bait in an ice bucket and park

it under a nice shady tree you might still be harming your

bait.   The problem with ice is that not all ice is created

equally.   Your ice may actually contain chlorine which when

released in the water, if in large doses, will send the bass

running.  

 
If you want to ensure that the bait is cold and still use

your ice all you need to do is lock it into a zip lock bag

that you can buy from the supermarket. You will have the

advantage of keeping the bait cool without releasing any

chlorine into the water.

 
If you have fresh bait it should be still wriggling when you

put it on the line.    It is a lot more attractive to a fish

to see a wriggling creature than a limp creature on the end

of the line.   If you take a look at the great lures that

are on the market you will see that they are made to be

flexible so they wriggle around the water mimicking the

creature that the bait is modelled on.  If your bait

wriggles the bass will be wriggling right after it and on to

the end of your line.

If you follow all of the tips set out above or even just a

few of them next time you go bass fishing you should be

bringing home bass in no time.

Competitive fishing became mainstream in the 1960’s when the first bass fishing tournamets started. Since then bass fishing has grown in leaps and bounds. Now there are magazines on bassin’, books on bass, gained mo Professional anglers are dedicated to the sport of bass fishing and to helping others to better enjoy their time fishing. The first bass fishing tournaments were started in the late 1960’s. Since that time the bass fishing industry has grown by leaps and bounds. There are now magazines, books, television shows, online bass fishing games and web sites devoted to bass fishing. As well as that whole industries have sparked up around the art of bass fishing supplying anything that you could have dreamed of!

A bass fishing tournament is a lot of fun for heaps of reasons. My favourite reasons are: (a) its an excuse to get away for a few days (b) I get to catch up with mates and (c) I love to check out the competition - whenever I watch the pros in action it gives me inspiration to get out there and conquer my pond.

Of course, I  can understand the joys of bassin’ as a sport but for me a lot of the pleasure is being out in the open rather than in a stuffed up box of an office.    I often like to go fishing with my buddies but I don’t mind being alone as well!   Going fishing is one of those sports where it is good with a group and just as good on your own.    You might be able to play golf by yourself but you sure as hell couldn’t play football!

Recently, I posted about the bass fishing tournament which is always a great event and if you can’t be there, can’t compete watch it on the tele instead!   The thing about the bass fishing tournament is that at the end of that weekend there is a pot of gold and a bass fish.   Not many people can get that sort of deal out of a weekend.

So besides the $$$$ of hoping to catch the winning bass what else has made bassin’ so popular.  My bet is that the sport has become more popular because there a lot of bass out there and there is always a challenge to catch the most and the biggest.    More fish means more happy fishermen and women, great photos, good trophys and dinner on the grill!
