It’s only natural when you are doing well at a sport that you start to want to compete. Fishermen for years have been competing in the art of bringing in the perfect catch. It might be just a couple of guys together ribbing each other about who has caught the biggest or the best. It doesn’t matter what the situation. It’s all about the perfect day fishing and the competition from skilled pros.

It’s only natural that when you do well in something you make it a bit more fun and challenging by introducing competition. Competitive fishing became mainstream in the 1960’s when the first bass fishing tournamets started. Since then bass fishing has grown in leaps and bounds. Now there are magazines on bassin’, books on bass, gained mo Professional anglers are dedicated to the sport of bass fishing and to helping others to better enjoy their time fishing. The first bass fishing tournaments were started in the late 1960’s. Since that time the bass fishing industry has grown by leaps and bounds. There are now magazines, books, television shows, online bass fishing games and web sites devoted to bass fishing. As well as that whole industries have sparked up around the art of bass fishing supplying anything that you could have dreamed of!

If you haven’t had a chance yet to check out a bass fishing tournament I highly recommend it.

A bass fishing tournament is a lot of fun for heaps of reasons. My favourite reasons are: (a) its an excuse to get away for a few days (b) I get to catch up with mates and (c) I love to check out the competition - whenever I watch the pros in action it gives me inspiration to get out there and conquer my pond.

If you are going to go to a bass fishing tournament there’s a few things that you should know.

Firstly, tournaments are not free they cost MONEY! If you are planning to enter the competition you will find that your wallet just got a whole lot lighter!

Not only that, of course you have to pay to get to the venue, pay for accommodation, get the boat towed …..and the usual bits and pieces that drain your wallet without you knowing it - you might even decide to spring for a new lure for the occassion! So if you are planning to go, bear in mind that the bills will add up. If you are planning on entering the comp remember that the bass fishing tournament is very competitive. As well it should be as there is a lot of prize money at stake.

My suggestion, and you don’t have to take it, is to check out a few bass fishing tournaments before you enter. You’ll have a great weekend away and be able to check out the competition as well. Get to know your competition, see what their weakness is and assess if you can knock someone else off the trophy stage!

Opportunity awaits you at a bass fishing tournament. This is the one spot where all the people are just as much interested in bassin’ as you are. You will get to meet people who might become fishing buddies, give you tips and learn a few things from the pros. Not only that bass tournaments are full of sponsors! Get to know them they might be willing to sponsor you - you won’t know unless you ask!

The only drawback to going to a bass fishing tournament is that it takes time. Travelling to and fro can be a pain, sometimes you have to take time off work and family commitments may put the kybosh on your weekend away. But other than that I know I would rather be at a bass fishing tournament than mowing the lawn!

Til next time - keep on bassin!
